How to Change the Background from an Image?

Have you ever tried to change the background of one of your images? It is a technique that is fairly common in photography, as photos of the subject are often snapped against a solid background that is subsequently replaced with a different scene. Effectively the photographer is able to capture high quality photos of the subject in a studio setting, and then superimpose them onto another background to create the final image.

While you may not want to use it in that precise fashion, being able to replace the background on images is useful nonetheless. Aside from completely altering the setting of an image, you can use it to get rid of backgrounds that are problematic, create transparencies, and so on.

Needless to say if you want to change the background of an image, you’ll need to edit it – which many people often view as a stumbling block. However if you use Movavi Photo Editor, you’ll find that you’re able to remove and replace the background from any image without any difficulty whatsoever.

Start to Change the Background

In order to get started, you first need to launch Movavi Photo Editor and add the image that you wish to edit. To do that just click on the ‘Browse for Images’ button located right in the center of the window, then locate and select the image file. If you prefer you could just drag and drop the image file into the working area instead to add it to the software.

The next step is to open the ‘Background Removal’ tab located in the top section of Movavi Photo Editor’s interface. When you click on it a new panel will open up on the right side of the interface that contains all the tools and options you need to use it as a background remover.

Within that panel there are two tools in particular that you’ll need: The green-colored ‘Foreground Brush’ and the red-colored ‘Background Brush’. First you will want to click on the ‘Foreground Brush’ and use it to mark the subject and any other elements that you want Movavi Photo Editor to keep. Then you should select the ‘Background Brush’ and use it to mark the background areas that you want to remove.

If you make a mistake and mark the wrong area with either of the brushes, you can clear the selection and start again using the ‘Selection Eraser’. Assuming you didn’t make any mistakes, a yellow line should appear around the subject and other elements that you marked – indicating the demarcation between the elements that Movavi Photo Editor will remove and the ones that it will not.

Take a minute or two to make sure that the yellow line accurately separates the elements, and if you are satisfied click on the ‘Set New Background’ button. Once you do that Movavi Photo Editor will delete the background from your image and the remaining elements will be displayed on a transparent background instead.

At this point you could save the image as a transparency – though you will have to use a format that supports that, such as PNG. Transparent images are widely used on websites and other online platforms, and it is worth keeping the option in mind if nothing else.

On the other hand if you’d like to use a new image as the background, you can click on the ‘Add Image’ button in the sidebar. Upon doing so Movavi Photo Editor will let you either browse and select one of your own images, or use a background from their collection. Rather than using an image as the background, you could choose a solid color to use instead.

In any case that should cover everything you need to know to start changing the background with Movavi Photo Editor. Assuming you’re satisfied with the results, you can click ‘Apply’ to finalize them, then click ‘Save As’ and choose a format for your photo.

Improve Images Further

Keep in mind that while you may be interested mainly in changing the background of an image, Movavi Photo Editor is actually capable of doing a lot more than that. If you have a few minutes to spare it will be well worth your time to explore its features as you can use them to edit and improve your images further and possibly in ways that you haven’t considered.

To start with you can use the features in Movavi Photo Editor to enhance the quality of your images. That can be done by either manually adjusting the color settings or using the automated ‘Magic Enhance’ feature to calculate and apply the best settings in a single click.

If you like you can then start to adjust the frame and composition of your image. A good place to start is by transforming the frame, and Movavi Photo Editor will make it easy for you to crop, rotate, flip, resize or level the image. On top of that you could also directly alter the composition by removing any unwanted elements, while ensuring no imperfections are left behind.

In some cases you may want to give your image a distinct visual style and look – and Movavi Photo Editor has numerous filters that you can apply to make that happen. Some of the options available include filters such as nostalgic, dramatic, sizzling cinnamon, cezanne, and so on.

If you happen to be editing a portrait or ‘selfie’, you’ll find an entire tab of features dedicated to helping to touch up facial images. Movavi Photo Editor will provide you with numerous tools in this section, so you can whiten teeth, remove blemishes, apply digital makeup, and much more.

Suffice to say you will have a ton of options at your disposal in terms of how you choose to improve your images. By taking advantage of the full spread of features in Movavi Photo Editor and using them in tandem with one another, you can create some truly spectacular images that look as though they were professionally captured and edited.
